NEAL SHIPE & JEFF NOONAN, lutes

Lutenists Neal Shipe & Jeff Noonan perform the Lute Duo Suite by William Lawes. This is an informal recording session from the late summer of 2021 when Neal & Jeff were preparing for a fall concert. The Suite, consisting of three short dances, survives in an autograph manuscript. Lawes composed the piece for two 12-course lutes in one of the many 17th-century Baroque lute tunings. Neal & Jeff adapted the original for two 10-course lutes in Renaissance tuning.
